Nelson was a Data Engineer at MapR, where he was responsible for the architecture, design, implementation and evangelism of the MapR Data Platform. In his role at MapR, Nelson has architected and deployed many large Hadoop systems in the pharmaceutical, telco, financial, and government sectors, as well as at several startups in North America. When not learning new big data technologies, Nelson enjoys playing tennis and soccer in San Francisco.

Nelson holds a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University, where he was given the Award of Excellence by the Stanford Alumni Association, an award designed to recognize the top 10% of the graduating class.
