MapR Chief Application Architect examines the keys to model management for machine learning

San Jose, Calif.- September 25, 2017 -- MapR Technologies, Inc.,provider of the Converged Data Platform that integrates analytics with operational applications in real time, announced today the release of a new book, Machine Learning Logistics: Model Management in the Real World.

Written by Ted Dunning, PhD, board member of the Apache Software Foundation and chief application architect at MapR, and co-author Ellen Friedman, PhD, principal technologist at MapR and Apache committer, and published by O’Reilly Media, the book Machine Learning Logistics: Model Management in the Real World, examines what you need for effective data and model management in real-world settings, including globally distributed cloud or on-premises systems.

Authors Dunning and Friedman introduce the rendezvous architecture, an innovative design to help you handle machine learning logistics. This approach not only paves the way to successful long-term management, it also frees up your time and effort to focus on the machine learning process itself and on how to take action on results.

The book provides a non-technical view of what makes the approach work, as well as in-depth technical details. It is ideal for data scientists, architects, developers, ops teams and project managers, whether your team is planning to build a machine learning system or currently has one underway.

Readers will learn:

  • The issues in machine learning logistics you need to consider when designing and implementing your system
  • How the new architecture described in this book leverages streaming data transport and containers to make logistics easier and more accurate, including the hot hand-off of new models and the collection of diagnostic data
  • Practical tips for comparing live models, including the role of decoys, canaries and the t-digest
  • Best practices for maintaining model performance after deployment

At Strata Data Conference in New York City, MapR will host complimentary book signings with both authors at its booth (#415) on Wednesday, September 27 from 3:35-4:15pm and Thursday, September 28 from 10:45-11:20am.
