Post-Upgrade Steps for Tez

Complete the following steps after you upgrade Tez with or without the MapR Installer.

  1. (Optional) Migrate any custom configuration settings into the new default files in the /opt/mapr/tez/tez-<old version>/conf/ directory.
  2. Delete old /apps/tez directory on the MapR-FS layer.
    hadoop fs -rm -r /apps/tez
  3. Create new /apps/tez directory on the MapR-FS layer.
    hadoop fs -put /opt/mapr/tez/tez-<new version>/apps/tez
    hadoop fs -chmod -R 755 /apps/tez
  4. Verify the upload.
    hadoop fs -ls /apps/tez/tez-<new version>
  5. Edit the hadoop-env.sh file and hive-env.sh files as shown below.
    1. Remove the following lines from the /opt/mapr/hadoop/hadoop-2.7.0/etc/hadoop/hadoop-env.sh file:
      export TEZ_CONF_DIR=/opt/mapr/tez/tez-<old version>/conf
      export TEZ_JARS=/opt/mapr/tez/tez-<old version>/*:/opt/mapr/tez/tez-<old version>/lib/*
      export HADOOP_CLASSPATH=$TEZ_CONF_DIR:$TEZ_JARS:$HADOOP_CLASSPATH
    2. Add the following lines to opt/mapr/hive/hive-<version>/conf/hive-env.sh:
      export TEZ_CONF_DIR=/opt/mapr/tez/tez-<new version>/conf
      export TEZ_JARS=/opt/mapr/tez/tez-<new version>/*:/opt/mapr/tez/tez-<new version>/lib/*
      export HADOOP_CLASSPATH=$TEZ_CONF_DIR:$TEZ_JARS:$HADOOP_CLASSPATH
Repeat this step on each node where you want Hive on Tez to be configured.
