Prerequisites for Using MapR Kubernetes Ecosystem

Hardware and Software Requirements

To install and use the MapR Kubernetes Ecosystem, you must have the following:
Component Requirements / Supported Versions
MapR Version Interoperability Compatible with MapR Core 5.2.2*, 6.0.x, and 6.1.0
MapR Ecosystem Pack (MEP) Any MEP supported by MapR 5.2.2, 6.0.x, or 6.1.0. See MEP Support by MapR Core Version.
Kubernetes Cluster**
  • Nodes: 2-node minimum
  • Memory: Minimum 32-GB/node
  • CPU:
    • Minimum requirement: 8 CPUs/node
    • Recommended for Drill: 20 CPUs/node
Kubernetes Software 1.13, 1.14, 1.15, and 1.16***
kubectl client version Version 1.14.8 or later
OS (Kubernetes nodes) This release of the MapR Kubernetes Ecosystem:
  • Uses Docker images that are based on CentOS 7.7 for all pods.
  • Requires CentOS 7.7 for Kubernetes host nodes.
OpenShift Compatibility 4.1 and 4.2
CSI Driver (optional component) 1.0 or later (implementing CSI spec v1.0.0). Driver is installed with an image built on CentOS.

Installation of the CSI driver is optional. See About CSI.

*Metrics are not supported on MapR 5.2.2 clusters.

**The Kubernetes environment can either be on-premises or inside the Google cloud. Red Hat OpenShift 4.1 is supported. Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) are currently not supported.
