Operators and Compute Spaces

This section describes MapR Kubernetes Ecosystem concepts, including the Kubernetes operators and Compute Spaces (CSpaces).

The MapR Kubernetes Ecosystem is a set of technologies that allow you to run compute jobs natively in Kubernetes while connected to an existing MapR data cluster. The compute jobs run inside pods on Compute Spaces (CSpaces). This release contains containerized versions of compute applications such as Spark and Drill.

The MapR Kubernetes Ecosystem provides the following benefits:
  • Independent and elastic scaling of storage and compute
  • Ability to simultaneously run multiple applications built from different versions of data-processing tools, such as Spark, against the same data set.
  • Deployment of multiple environments with resource isolation and sharing as required

In this release, the Kubernetes environment can be either on-premises or inside the Google cloud. Red Hat OpenShift 4.1 and 4.2 are supported. Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) are currently not supported.
